*REVIEW* Spell Bound
Synopsis:
Hailed as “impossible to put down,” the Hex Hall series has both critics and teens cheering. With a winning combination of romance, action, magic and humor, this third volume will leave readers enchanted.
Just as Sophie Mercer has come to accept her extraordinary magical powers as a demon, the Prodigium Council strips them away. Now Sophie is defenseless, alone, and at the mercy of her sworn enemies—the Brannicks, a family of warrior women who hunt down the Prodigium. Or at least that’s what Sophie thinks, until she makes a surprising discovery. The Brannicks know an epic war is coming, and they believe Sophie is the only one powerful enough to stop the world from ending. But without her magic, Sophie isn’t as confident.
Sophie’s bound for one hell of a ride—can she get her powers back before it’s too late?
Yayyyy! I am such a fan of the Hex Hall series. Spell Bound is the third and final book of the series and we finally get to see what happens to Sophie and Co. as they battle the evil Casnoffs. Family, loyalty, and right and wrong collide in this epic conclusion.
Spell Bound picks up after the torturous cliffhanger in Demonglass and Sophie finds herself in an unlikely place—the Brannick compound. Turns out, Sophie has a connection to the Brannicks that she never EVER would have expected. The Brannicks believe that Sophie is the only person who can take down the Casnoff sisters and a plan is hatched to help Sophie regain her powers.
Before Sophie and the gang can act on their plan, Sophie and the other students of Hex Hall are magically transported back to the school against their will. Hex Hall has seen better days and the students are prisoners with no way to escape Lara Casnoff’s evil plan to turn all of them into demons. Will Sophie get her powers back in time to stop Lara’s plan? Or will getting her powers back turn her into a force of evil, under the control of the Casnoffs? Never a dull moment in the lives of Sophie Mercer and her friends! Get ready for a wild ride and a wonderful conclusion to this much-loved series.
*SQUEEEEEEE* I really, really love these books. I’d give Spell Bound a solid 4 of 5 stars, which is admittedly the lowest I’ve rated any of the three books. While I really enjoyed it, and thought it was a fitting conclusion, some parts felt a little fast for me, especially the big scenes towards the end. It was like, wham! Bam! Done. I guess because I enjoyed the story so much, I would have preferred a little more if that makes sense.
I just adore these characters and am really bummed that this is the third and final book in the series! Though I did see on Goodreads that there’s talk of a spin-off series so maybe we haven’t seen the last of Sophie, Archer, Jenna, and all them just yet. Here’s hoping! If you haven’t read any of the Hex Hall books yet, you should really get on that. They’re highly entertaining quick reads that will leave you wanting more. Write more, Rachel Hawkins! I beg of you! Seriously, they’re fantastic. Enjoy! *XOXO*
